1) ** We use the grams on the product’s “Nutrition Facts” label for all calculations. **
2) We do NOT use the “Calories” or the “% Daily Value”.
3) For the “Protein”, “Fats and Oils”, and “Fiber” categories, we divide the number of grams of each category by the total number of grams in a serving.
4) For the “carbs other than fiber, plus everything else” category, we subtract the number of grams in the “Protein”, “Fats and Oils”, and “Fiber” categories, from the total number of grams in a serving. Then, we divide the result by the total number of grams in a serving.
5) All percentages are rounded off to the nearest whole percentage.

ABouT Us
“No Sugar” means no sugar in any form, including glucose, fructose, dextrose, lactose, sucrose, mannose, xylose, sugar in the raw, cane juice, pure cane juice, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, molasses.
Notice the identical chemical formulas of many of the above forms of sugar, except sucrose, which that same chemical formula times 2!

We look for no more than a small % of the food product to be any of sugar’s disguises (simple carbohydrates-fake sugar free), just enough only for the purpose of flavoring, such as
aloe juice, aloe vera, honey, dates, ginger, fruit, maple sugar, maple syrup, coconut sugar, alcohol, all forms of sugar alcohols, including maltitol, erythritol, xylitol, sorbitol, mannitol, polyglycitol.

We look for starch, including flour and corn starch (all digestible complex carbohydrates), to be kept to a minimum, as sugars in disguise-fake sugar free.  Even have to be careful about milk, especially low fat milk, which can have a not insignificant level of sugars, such as lactose.  We look for proteins and/or fiber to be substituted for these things, such as whey protein isolate for milk, and sprouted wheat protein instead of wheat flour, and corn fiber for corn starch.

You may have noticed, SugarFree is a lifestyle choice.  Overall, we look for the total carbs (other than fiber) in products on to be no more than around 10%, more or less.
We look for oils to generally be healthier, such as olive oil and grape seed oil and peanut oil.  We avoid soybean oil and hydrogenated oils.  Others perhaps in moderation.

What about artificial sweeteners? Since the science about their value may seem inconclusive, I did a little check at the sweetener aisle in the grocery store – and noticed that the main ingredient for many is dextrose – a sugar, or maltitol – a sugar alcohol, or erythritol – another sugar alcohol. So that left me wondering if the real reason Americans keep getting heavier even with substitute sweeteners, after all these decades, could be because most of those packaged sweetener products are actually mostly sugar or sugar alcohols, with the no-calorie sweetening ingredient (natural or artificial) less than 1% of the product! Surprised? Look at the ingredient label on that little packet! We prefer natural sweeteners such as monk fruit extract and stevia extract. That said, a use of artificial sweeteners that does NOT include sugars or sugar alcohols may be worth considering. After all, many things many of us value in our lives, such as prescription medications and smartphones, are made of all kinds of unnatural components. For example, smartphones contain plastics. A personal example – because emphasizing high potassium foods in my diet helps my heart stay in rhythm, helps my muscles avoid cramps and spasms, helps lower my blood pressure, and make myself feel more “full” without eating as much, I would consider food products containing acesulfame potassium. However, my Dad would be harmed by consuming lots of potassium loaded foods in his diet, because higher food potassium levels are incompatible with a medication he takes.
